Fitness Tip #52: How to Enjoy Treats During the Holidays

During the holidays, there are going to be plenty of times where treats and desserts will be available. So, here is a helpful tip that helped me stay on track during the holiday season, enjoy treats, and avoid overeating on treats and desserts. I would make a plate with one slice of every dessert I felt like having at an event and enjoy it. The benefits of doing this is that it allows me to enjoy all the treats I want and avoid overeating. Here is how I do this.
- Know Calorie and Macro Goals Before Going to the Party to Have Treats
Knowing calorie goals was useful for me because I would limit the number of calories I was eating before a holiday party. So, I could enjoy the food at the party and not worry so much.
- Find a Plate
I only fill my plate once with treats and don’t make second trips.
- Find a Treat and Grab a Small Slice
It’s easy to overeat on snacks if I grab the entire treat, such as an entire cinnamon roll. BUT if I grab a small slice, it allows me to limit the calories I’m taking in from that specific treat, enjoy other treats, not feel restricted, and still feel included at the party.
- Don’t Give in to Peer Pressure
It’s okay to enjoy treats, I don’t let other people convince me to splurge on these treats.
Summary:
By enjoying a slice of each treat and putting them all on one plate. It allowed me to stay within my calorie goals, feel included at holidays and parties, not feel restricted or left out, and enjoy treats.
Extra Note:
The scale might go up the next morning because many treats cause water retention. Still important to not go overboard and overfill plates or keep going back for more snacks and treats.
